Someone recommended this book to me because it was "great ". I trusted the source and went and bought it because like so many things, you have to stay current, even if you have a high paying job.I was sadly disappointed in this book. It is a lot of hot air and most of the "info", "secrets" or "insider knowledge" concerning "getting a job". I work in the highest echelons of a certain multinational private company situated in the EU. I have also worked in Asia and Latin America. None of those experiences match what this fella is claiming.Now add some random self help points, a lot of posturing, borderline lying and an utter disregard of reality and you come to this book. Oh yes and a lot of unwanted white pages, deliberately done to make it look like it is "more brainy" than it actually is.Does it help job seekers and people interested in keeping themselves up to date in the job seeking market and practices? A resounding NO, especially for the EU, Asian and Latin American markets. Maybe this Utopian modus operandi may fly in the US but i HIGHLY DOUBT IT. The writers attitude reminds me of Black adders king george III where he takes posturing advice from actors.It is written by a headhunter and thus you can imagine that the "HR" or "headhunting" profession "can do no wrong", while in reality they do not "sniff out the best talent out there". This is a proven fact where 85-92% of eligable candidates fall through the cracks because of automation processes or just because a candidate used a different layout/font/digital document that the automation processes have difficulty with. I know a friend that is a lawyer,passionate, knows his stuff and lives for the law and clients. He had to search for 5 years to find a job in law ( doing other odd jobs) So don't come peddling your malarkey Burnison. Also if that i the case I wouldn't have been called in, as an independent crisis manager years back to fix the problem of companies. Nearly all of then were created by ineffectual HR and incompetent people with huge ego problems. Why is that? Because companies use third parties like Burnisons company to get "the best hires". They are lazy, only in it for the money and in the long run a company is better off hiring an actual University masters in Psychology or History to do the HR function. Those people know their stuff.Conclusion:1) Readability: easy, written by a 12 year old level2) use-ability in the real world and job markets around the world: utter useless.3)Reality based factual written book? NO, more like a book of tall tales that is borderline a scam.4) price and usefulness: Too much for what you get. It is one of those books that you can label under "never touch again, just like the author, whom i will boycott.5) Use of "flash words" are horrendous!!!! ( Flash words": words devoid of all meaning and used to bamboozle the reader. Examples: "know thyself", be aggressive but also assertive, be passionate etc without explaining or further elaboration. No examples given where the reader can glean some extra info.Last conclusion: To buy or not to buy? DO NOT BUY !You want a good starting point go with Gregory Austin booklet: resume writing. This is also written by a corporate recruiter but it is concise, to the point, no posturing and ego-tripping nonsense. in short Gregory Austins book is way better if you want to find out more about hiring practices, bettering your resume/curriculum vitae writing skills as well as brushing up on your interview skills.
